Frequently Asked Questions
Question? Why do you send your children to a Christian School?
Answer: Where you buy your gasoline for your car does not matter because automobile fuel does not affect the way you think. Whether you buy your clothing from a Christian or a non-Christian does not matter a great deal because what you wear on the outside does not impact your inner being.
However, where you receive your education matters a great deal because education is designed to affect your thinking. Your thinking will be brought into line with the values, philosophy and world view of the school and of the teachers who instruct you. As Christian parents, we need to ask, "From what educational philosophy do I want my children to be educated?" We must realize that education is much more than learning facts and gathering information. It is learning about values. There is no such thing as value-neutral education.
The question is whose values are shaping the minds of my children? The answer will be different in a secular school that denies God, ignores God or simply does not have the freedom to include God than in a Christian school that exalts God and teaches students to think according to godly values. If the education system where your children attend does not promote Christian thinking, than their education is teaching them to become secular.
In a Christian school, the focus is on Christian values and the recognition of an Almighty Creator. The world is seen from God's perspective where truth is not relative but absolute and is rooted in God's eternal Word. Christian schools teach students to make ethical choices in light of God's standards. They are taught to learn and to live from a Christian perspective. They are equipped to live as salt and light in their world. Their education affirms their faith - it does not destroy it.
A Christian education provides the foundation for Christian living. Proverbs 9:10 tells us that the fear of God is basic to all wisdom and that knowing God results in understanding. When Christian parents believe this to be true, they will see that their children are educated in the fear and knowledge of God and of His Son, Jesus Christ. Does your children's school provide that kind of foundation?
Why Cornerstone over other schools?
You have to experience it to know! We remain an independent (private) school with fully accredited by Alberta Education teachers. This means that parents can determine the direction of the school - who we hire for staff, how we can institute God's word and standards in every subject. We have a full representation of most of the evangelical churches in our student body and board. We receive no financial assistance from any church and therefore are not bound in any way to any denomination. We are under the covering of the one true Almighty God!
